21 Gift Ideas for Children with Sensory Needs

I’ve been seeing so many questions from parents and family members looking for present ideas for their kiddos with sensory challenges, that I thought I’d bring some together for you in one place.

Of course this list is by no means exhaustive, and won’t be perfect for every child. But keeping in mind your child’s likes, age or developmental level and their sensory needs, hopefully you’ll find a couple good ideas that would be perfect for your child!

I do want to point out, I’m focusing here mainly on kiddos that are sensory seekers, who are often seeking out sensory input. Remember, it is important to know your child’s sensory profile, because a child could be seeking input in one system and aversive to input in another system. For example they could be a sensory seeker in the proprioceptive and vestibular systems (maybe they’re always moving, running, jumping, spinning, climbing) but are over-responsive or sensory averse in the tactile system (maybe they don’t like different textures or light touch).

There are many different ways that sensory challenges can present in a child, if you aren’t quite sure your child’s sensory profile and/or haven't checked out our article “Sensory Challenges? Understanding the sensory system and how dysregulation may affect your child”, definitely do that and over on the right of this page you can also download our free sensory cheat sheet. These will help you figure out your child’s sensory needs and then… help you pick the best gift idea!

So let’s talk about present ideas!
